German CSR Conference 28. October 2010 organized by German Embassy and BGCCI
I. Situation
Economic and political developments in BGD are currently favorable and prospects for continued growth are positive. Purchasing power in BGD is steadily increasing. German-BGD bilateral trade volume is set to break 2bn EUR mark in 2009. While the overall outlook is positive, two concerns cloud the horizon:
BGD garment exports to Germany are confronted with criticism regarding social and environmental standards, potentially damaging future export prospects. Likewise, German garment importers are faced with the possibility of negative reports about working conditions along their supply chain, potentially damaging their corporate reputation.
II. Issue
Key issue is “perception”. The perception needs to be changed from “problem” to “opportunity”.
III. Goals
Highlight various CSR and Social Business activities and their contribution to the development of German-BGD trade and investment relations.
Raise awareness for CSR, Social Business and responsible entrepreneurship for improving living conditions, social standards and the fight against poverty.
Improve perception of BGD as a trading partner and investment destination, where there are vast opportunities for CSR.
